Transforming Harties one clean-up and repair at a time

Community Clinic
The clinic was our signature project and had our focus for the first quarter of 2025 . We have an ongoing commitment towards them that involves weekly garden maintenance and engaging with other organisations for the supply of colouring books and crayons for the children in the waiting area. Sister Dineo Sepheng and her staff are very grateful for our sincere involvement at the clinic.
A short breakdown of the work we did and money spent:
Initial garden cleanup: R4,260
Renewing paint on 92m fence: R13,750
New security house: R13,860
Garden services monthly commitment: R2,000
Donated to the clinic:
Skip for waste removal: Load4Load Skip hire
Paint & brushes: Dreiers Hardware Hartbeespoort
2 x Wheelie bins for weekly refuse: Westrandbox
Plastic kiddies chairs & table: AboveBelow Advertising
Second hand kids & parenting books: OnsWinkel
Plants for the garden: Community
Proudly Harties would like to also thank Madibeng Municipality for fixing the stormwater structures outside the clinic as it was flushing away much needed ground cover in the parking area. The municipality is still busy with the upgrades to the outside parking area.
Going forward, we plan to fill the beddings with waterwise plants and continue our discussions with nurseries that have shown interest in donating such plants.

Cemetery
When we travel through South Africa, the state of a town’s cemetery is directly linked to the overall state of the town and it’s general economic well being. If you travel abroad, you’ll notice cemeteries and “places of rest” are attractive and often even tourist attractions. Our local cemetery has long been an eyesore on the way to Cableway and other destinations.
Proudly Harties is working with Madibeng Municipality to create a better looking place of rest where the community can visit their loved ones safely. Harties even has historic figures laid to rest in our local cemetery and can potentially become a tourist attraction too.
Our scope of work focuses on the aesthetic appearance of the front & entrance and involves painting of the palisades, landscaping and fresh signage. The cemetery also has a littering issue that we are hoping to address and solve.
Our expenses:
Labour: Est. R9,000
Paint: Est. R4,000
Signage: Est R5,000
Donated to the project:
10 x Large Aloes
2 cubes compost & soil mix

Main Road
Our Main Road project refers to the road running through town from Saartjies Nek up to the high school and left onto Scott Street over the dam wall. We have identified areas along it that need revitalisation in terms of painting and landscaping for greater safety of the road users and pedestrians.
Our efforts have been met with great positivity by the community. We appointed a local contractor and the kerbsides received much needed white, black and yellow paint according to SANRAL and municipal specifications. It is looking very smart.
Our expenses:
Labour: R10,900
Donated to the project:
Paint & brushes: Dreiers Hardware Hartbeespoort
30 x Large Aloes: The Aloe Farm
TLB for ground preparation
2 cubes compost & soil mix
Going forward, the areas identified for landscaping need to be prepped and aloes planted.

Critical Roads
As an NPO the organisation makes use of contractors with the necessary liability cover and service agreements in place to work with the relevant state entities on our public roads. Getting permission is key, and takes time, as does scheduling with our contractors.
Thus we have identified 2 sites that needed urgent intervention in the last month and acquired the necessary permission to attend to those. The very big pothole at the traffic light on the Western side of the dam wall and 4 potholes in front of Hoërskool Hartbeespoort.
Our expenses:
Labour: R 10,354.60
Labour: R 1,000.00
Donated to the project:
500kg cold tar mix
It remains the responsibility of Public Works, Sanral and Madibeng Municipality to maintain our roads and where we can, we assist them in doing so. The skill and materials are costly and we have accordingly set up the facility for donors to commit specifically to roads and from those contributions we can spend accordingly towards roads.
